Monthly Wrap-Up: July 2021

Goodbye July, hello August!

July went by really quickly, and I’m excited for some holidays now in August. I’ll be having myself a nice stay-cation, which as we all know means prime reading time! I’m a bit behind on some NetGalley e-arcs, so I’m hoping to catch up on reading and reviews soon.

And now… to the books!

What I added to my shelves…

July was an absolutely stellar month for new books! I was lucky enough to be approved on NetGalley for a number of my most anticipated reads AND I had a gift card from work that I got to spend in a bookstore. Heaven. I *may* have gone a bit wild in there… check out my reel on Insta to see my haul on that beautiful, beautiful day.

For Review

Huge thanks to all the publishers and NetGalley for the e-arcs! Link in title takes you to Goodreads.

What I read…

I read 8 books again in July, which is still brilliant by my standards. It definitely helped that they were all great reads! Link in title takes you to my review or to Goodreads if I haven’t yet reviewed that title.

  • Wendy, Darling by A.C. Wise – a wonderfully dark, feminist Peter Pan retelling that takes on a life of its own, tackling very real and modern issues
  • A Statue for Jacob by Peter Murphy – I was delighted to be on the blog tour for this highly entertaining legal thriller. Huge thanks to Random Things Tour for having me!
  • After the Silence by Louise O’Neill – very interesting and gripping, if slightly surprising in its focus
  • Namesake by Adrienne Young – a very satisfying conclusion to the Fable duology
  • Period: It’s About Bloody Time by Emma Barnett – very informative. I got the audiobook from my library, and Emma Barnett is an absolutely brilliant narrator!
  • The Witch’s Heart by Genevieve Gornichec – watch out for my full review of this Norse mythology retelling, coming this Saturday!
  • Golgotha by Phil Hore – a fascinating murder mystery set in the trenches against the backdrop of WWI. Full review coming soon!
  • A Deadly Education by Naomi Novik – finally read the first in Naomi Novik’s new Scholomance series. Full review coming soon!

Happening on the blog…

I was delighted to be on the blog tour for Doppelganger by William Michael Davidson, where I had the opportunity to share an exclusive excerpt of the book with you. Huge thanks to Rockstar Book Tours for having me!

Nicolò of EnjoyTheMovies was back with a brand new Who Told It Best feature post. This month, he looked at Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.

And if you enjoy Nicolò’s articles (or you just want more book vs film chats!), be sure to check out his brand new podcast as well, Death by Adaptation, where he discusses classic books and their film adaptations. The first episode was also dedicated to Tarantino’s book, so don’t miss it if you’re craving more Tarantino time!
