Wrap-ups

Back to the Books! What I’ve been up to and a wrap-up

Hello and welcome, or welcome back! How have you all been? Today I’m (finally) back with a little general update and a wrap-up to let you know what I’ve been up to since the last time I did one of these – it’s been a while!

I’m linking up to the Sunday Post, a blog news meme hosted by Kimberly @ Caffeinated Reviewer, a chance to share news and recap the last week (or several!); and It’s Monday! What Are You Reading?, a place to meet up and share what you have been, and are about to be reading over the week, hosted by Kathryn @ The Book Date.

As you may have noticed, things have been fairly quiet over here on Book for Thought for the past couple of months. It’s been one of those periods when life somehow just… took over. I’ve been super busy between work and uni and my time for reading and blogging at some point simply seemed to vanish. Ok, that’s me being a bit dramatic here, but my free time definitely took a massive hit.

Although I missed coming back to the blog to work out my thoughts about books and share them with you, it was just a bit too much in the past couple of months, but I am grateful to have this little corner of the internet to come back to whenever I feel ready to do so! I’ve seen a few fellow bloggers discussing this recently, so here are my two cents. It’s okay to take breaks every so often (or even very often, as I seem to do lately haha): books and the bookish community will be there for you if and when you decide to come back ❤

So, in the time I’ve been away I still managed to do a few cool, non-book-related things, first and foremost attending the Venice Film Festival for the first time ever! I’m not as big a film buff as I am a bookworm, and I’ve never really talked about it here, but I enjoy losing myself in a good story on-screen almost as much as between the pages. I was lucky enough to be selected as a jury member on a young people’s jury for an inclusion and sustainability award and it was a blast! I watched more films in a few days than I probably do in a month, met some amazing people and had an all-around fun break from work and study. Here’s a sneak peek to my personal Instagram, where I posted a few Venice pics 👇🏼

What I’ve Been Reading

As you might imagine, I didn’t really get to do as much reading as I normally would but that didn’t stop me from finishing a book or two in between screenings. Keeping up with reviews has been a totally different matter though, and I have loads to catch up on! So, here are some of the books I read in the meantime that you can look forward to seeing over here sometime in the (hopefully very near) future.

What I’m Reading

Spooky season is in full swing, so I’m trying to get a few seasonal reads in!

I’m about halfway through the audiobook for Hare House. I’m not fully sold on this one so far, though it does have some great haunted-house vibes, so I’m hoping it will pick up soon. The narrator is great though, and I’m loving the Scottish setting!

I also just started The Hidden Crown, which I’m reading for the blog tour in November.
Trapped in her life as a servant in a magicless kingdom, Anslee yearns for the freedom she felt roaming the woods as a child. Convinced marrying a nobleman is her only way out, she should be ecstatic when she catches the eye of new-in-town Lord Avery Varrock. But this lord has brought more than riches to town – and his revelations will turn Anslee’s life upside down.

This is it for this month! What have you been up to? Have you read any of these books? What did you think of them?
Tell me all in the comments!

  1. I also recently read Fourth Wing and Miss Aldridge Regrets. Loved Fourth Wing but my feelings about Miss Aldridge… are more mixed. I can’t tell you the last time I saw a film. The film festival sounds like it was amazing. Come see my week here. Happy reading!

  2. Hare House looks like something I might enjoy. I’ll have to check it out. Glad you were able to step away from blogging for a while. You are right, the blogging community is so welcoming. I just took over a year break myself.
