Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly feature hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl with a new topic every week for book bloggers to chat about. This week’s topic is books with a high page count.
Even though I rarely read really long books nowadays, I do love the feeling of getting lost in a story that takes its time to unravel and keeps me company for long. Plus, holding those doorstoppers must surely count as a workout, right?
There are actually quite a few big books on my shelves, so I’ve decided to split this post in two. The first part today features big books I’ve read (and enjoyed), while next week I’ll share the tomes that are still on my TBR.
Let’s take a look at this list!

- The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett – 1,031 pages
- I Am Pilgrim by Terry Hayes – 912 pages
- Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke – 887 pages
- The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley – 884 pages
- The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt – 864 pages
- The Dark Side of Love by Rafik Schami – 856 pages
- Winter by Marissa Meyer – 833 pages
- The Labyrinth of the Spirits by Carlos Ruiz Zafón – 832 pages
- The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins – 783 pages
- 11/22/63 by Stephen King – 767 pages
Note: page count is based on the edition I read.
I was actually quite surprised looking back on a few of these as I read them some time ago and, while I remembered them being long, I didn’t recall just how long some of these books were! It’s testament to how good they were though that they seemed a lot shorter to me: I rated all of these four stars or more!
What are some of the big books on your shelves? Let me know in the comments or leave a link to your TTT post so I can visit! And remember to check back in for Part 2 next week.

I was reluctant to read Pillars of Earth, but ended up really enjoying it. I keep wondering if I should read the other entries in the series.

These big books can be intimidating! I keep forgetting there are other books in the series 😅 but then, I’m terrible at ever completing them lol.

Just seen The Mists Of Avalon on another list, now it really is a must read for me as I do like Arthurian legend tales.

I read it a long time ago and remember loving it! I keep meaning to revisit it now I’m older to see if I can delve deeper into the themes. There’s something special about Arthurian legends – I never tire of them!

Lifting chunksters definitely counts as weight lifting! LOL. I tend to avoid really big books these days as well. I just don’t have the patience for them that I used to.
Happy TTT (on a Wednesday)!

Oh wow Winter was over 800 pages long? How didn’t I know that? I’ve read it and I don’t remember it being that chunky a book. Although I think it was as an ebook and you can never truly tell how big those are.
I was surprised to learn how long The Goldfinch was too when I saw it on someone else’s list, and now The Woman In White as well. I guess adding books to your TBR without seeing them in print adds to a lot of ‘how long’ surprises 😂
I’m most eager to get to Jonathan Strange but there are a few here I really want to read.

Same haha! I read Winter in ebook so I was very surprised at the page count. This does tend to happen a fair bit with ebooks though – there’s always an element of surprise there!
